An IA lets you do annual inspections and approve major repairs and alterations for return to service. Before the FAA issues such a license, you need to pass a 50-question knowledge test. It's heavy on references and built around ADs, Type Certificate Data Sheets, Form 337, and Part 43.

    Pass the test

    Pass the FAA Inspection Authorization knowledge test.

Once issued, an IA is renewed every 24 months, by March 31 of each odd-numbered year, with activity shown for each year (14 CFR 65.93).
